Aqua Globes

Gone are the days when PBS or Noggin was the only TV channel Katie would watch. She now sometimes watches big kid cartoon channels, which unfortunately have commercials. She is easily influenced by them. We have a flowerpot on our front porch and the flowers are usually pretty wilted. Every time we leave the house, Sarah tells me to water the flowers. However, Katie insists that water alone will not help the poor flowers. We MUST get Aqua Globes < /div>

Swimming Lessons

Katie and Sarah finished their 2-weeks of everyday swimming lessons today. What a difference 2 weeks makes!! Katie has always been terrified of getting her face wet. After the first day of lessons, she told me, "I'm not going back to swimming lessons. I'll just go watch Sarah. I'll just use my vest and noodle forever!!" We will continue with 2 days a week after the 4th of July weekend. I am so proud of my girls!!!!

The Tooth Fairy

Katie does not like to wear pajamas to bed (yes, she does wear panties). Last night as I was tucking her in, she pulled the covers all the way up to her chin and said,

"Cover me all the way up, Mommy. I don't want the tooth fairy to see me naked!!"

(She has a loose tooth, but it's not quite ready to fall out yet. I guess she thinks the tooth fairy is already on watch.)

Making Pizza

We were making pizza last night. Before we began, I made the girls wash their hands. After they washed them, I said, "No fingers in the mouth or nose while we're cooking." To which Katie replied, "Yeah, and no fingers in the butt, either!!" Touche!!

Katie's Views on Smoking

My mom bought Katie an "Alvin and the Chipmunks" dvd. It's obviously a remastered version of an old cartoon. In the cartoon, several of the characters are smoking. After the cartoon was over, we had a talk about smoking.

"Katie, I hope you will never smoke."

"I'll only smoke when I'm bigger."

"No, you won't. It will make you sick."

"Not if I blow it out quickly."

"Why do you want to smoke?

"Smoking is fun."

Oh, my.....

UPDATE: The next night, we were watching the same movie (ugh) and Katie confessed that she was just tricking me when she said she wanted to smoke. She said she wanted to make me laugh. That's my girl!!

Swiper Did It!!

When Katie was a toddler, one of her first sentences was "Swiper did it!" (Swiper is the sneaky fox from from Dora the Explorer). Swiper is still her scapegoat, although now that she has a sister, Sarah is often to blame. Last weekend, our next door neighbor had a jewelry party. Katie came home after being over there and said, "Mommy, Maci's mommy has MUCH more jewelry than you." Very true. Last night I was wearing earrings I got from Mechelle's last party and Katie asks me, "Mommy, did you "swipe" those earrings from Maci's mommy?" Funny.

Ewwww, gross!!

Katie and her friend Maci were rolling across our backyard today. I told them to watch out for dog poop (we have 3 dogs and I was pooper-scooping at the time). Without hesitation, Katie says, "If you roll into poo-poo, you lose 2 points." Ewww..... gross.

"Take her back to China!!"

I think Sarah is working so hard to behave at school that she has to release a lot of energy when she gets home. She has been a handful this week and is driving Katie crazy. Last night Katie said, "I don't want her anymore!! Take her back to China. I'll wait here." I had to stop myself from laughing. I told her Sarah was her sister forever and would not be going back to China. I did take Sarah to bed early (which she needed since she is not napping at school) and Katie and I had a nice evening together.

So THAT'S the problem!!!

Because of her cleft lip and palate, Sarah still does not talk. She babbles all the time, but we really cannot undestand much of what she says. She tries, and can make a few sounds now, but she is still way behind. I think Katie realizes that Sarah is old enough to talk and wonders why she doesn't. Yesteday she told me, "Mommy, I think Sarah is speaking in Spanish!!" Very funny. Today Grandma was talking to Sarah (who does understand everything we say) when Katie told her, "Grandma, Sarah doesn't understand you because she speaks SPANISH!!" Very funny, indeed!!

Katie and Tyler

A few days ago, Katie's teacher told me that Katie and Tyler like to hold hands. I asked her about it in the car. She said they like to hold hands and do this (as she rubbed her sister's back). Oh, my!!

Yesterday we were at Pizza Hut getting pizza. Katie, age 4.5, was walking down the mat by the door and told me she was getting married. I asked her if she was marrying Tyler. She said, "No, mommy. He is not very handsome." Obviously my daughter watches waaayyyyy too many princess movies!!

"Mommy, you most agot!!"

Sometimes Katie says things that aren't quite right. Currently my favorite is, "Mommy, you most agot....!!" (mommy, you almost forgot.....) Last night she was worried that I "most agot" to bring Gaby, our dog, upstairs with us when we went to bed.

She love to correct me and tell me when I forgot to do something. How would I ever survive without her!! : )

Katie and Santa

We went to our neighborhood "Winter Wonderland" party today. Every year since my parents built their house, the community has had snow. So we bought gloves and a hat for Katie and looked forward to playing in the snow. We get there and there is NO SNOW!! There were so many disappointed people there, including us. Thankfully Santa showed up. Katie told him she wanted, "Lotsa princess crowns, princess shoes, and princess dresses". Santa responded, Wow, you really like princess stuff, don't you!!" She answered very seriously, "Yes."
