5 years ago today I met my amazing Katie. In some ways it seems like only yesterday, in others it seems like a lifetime ago. She is brilliant, loving, stubborn, and strong. I am blessed beyond my imagination. (no fancy restaruant for her, the park and McDonald's is how she wanted to celebrate~ my kind of girl)

Pray for Sarah Grace
For over a year now, I have followed this blog http://www.twointaiwan.blogspot.com/. Sarah Grace's family has been waiting 17 months to bring her home from Taiwan. Please pray that she will get to join her forever family soon.

Happy Halloween!!
Katie was an Auburn cheerleader and Sarah was Dora this year. We went "Trick-or-Treating" and had a great time. After we went one way around the neighborhood, we came back home. I thought we were just emptying their pumpkins to go back out again, but surprisingly, they both said they were done. We spent the rest of the evening sitting in our driveway to pass out candy. Our whole cul-de-sac sat outside to do this, which was nice. I just love our neighborhood!!

Fall Cheerleading
Katie is starting to like being a cheerleader. When we first started, Katie would often walk over to me during practice and yell, "Why did you sign me up for this!!!" She hasn't said that in a while. Even one of the other moms commented to me the other day how far Katie has come and that she has really started to blossom. Katie loves their halftime dance. I'll have to post it here soon.

We survived Hurricane Ike!!

Hurricane Ike started coming on land Friday evening. Our power flickered on and off until about 10:30 PM when it went out for good. We went to bed shortly after the power went out. Katie then said, "Hey, you said we could watch TV!!" I reminded her that we had no power. "Try again!!" she replied.
The storm was very noisy and scary. I did not sleep much, but thankfuly the girls did. We did not go into the closet like we probably should have, but I did think about it several times. By morning, it was still very windy, but the worst was over. I went outside to look around our house and we looked OK, except for the gate that had it's latch torn off.
By 2:00 we had out power restored!! 2 million without power and somehow ours was restored quickly, thank God!! 6 waking hours for the girls without power was too much for them. : )
By 5:00 we had phone and Internet.
I did find out that 2 of our dear neighbors had devastating damage during the storm. They were the only ones in the cul-de-sac to board every window and yet they had the most damage. Sometimes life is ironic. My heart goes out the them.

A Visit to the Speech Therapist
Today we went to Texas Children's Hospital for a video fluoroscopy, also called a palate study. Sarah, my little loud-mouth dynamo, would not talk at all for Kris, the speech therapist. Talking is essential for the study. They needed her to say things like "yellow yo-yo", "wow wee" and "really low". She refused to say them for Kris. Kris would leave the room and Sarah would say them loudly for me. Kris said the study would be pointless if Sarah was not willing to cooperate, to which I agreed. Kris knows our local speech therapist, Lesa, and they have talked in length about Sarah's speech issues. Using this information and what she did hear Sarah say (quietly and through the door), Kris went to go talk to Dr. Stal. Dr. Stal decided to do a p-flap surgery on Sarah to help her speech. First we have to get Sarah's tonsils out. 3 months after the surgery, Dr. Stal will do the p-flap. I am excited to be moving forward.

1st day of school!!!!
My babies both started elementary school today. Katie is in kindergarten in our neighborhood elementary school and Sarah is in ppcd (preschool program for children with disabilities) at a different elementary school in our district. I was so worried about both of them today, but both did great and are looking forward to going back tomorrow.
I asked Katie if she learned any rules today and she said, "Yes. Do not touch the walls and do not touch the water fountain."

Aqua Globes

Gone are the days when PBS or Noggin was the only TV channel Katie would watch. She now sometimes watches big kid cartoon channels, which unfortunately have commercials. She is easily influenced by them. We have a flowerpot on our front porch and the flowers are usually pretty wilted. Every time we leave the house, Sarah tells me to water the flowers. However, Katie insists that water alone will not help the poor flowers. We MUST get Aqua Globes < /div> !!
